Note: Although improvements can be made to the alley side of a property, the alley frontage cannot be added to the street frontage to increase grant amount.
Improvements or renovations of existing buildings, when a combination of several of the following are included: structural façade improvements, paint, awnings, signs, addition of architectural detail to façade, façade tile or stone accents, decorative entry walkway area, outside dining with decorative fencing, irrigated landscape/flower planters or pots, outside decorative lighting, and new windows.
New buildings, general or deferred maintenance on buildings or properties, upgrading mechanical, plumbing, or electrical equipment, or roof repairs, asphalt paving, chain link fencing, can signs, etc.
All properties within the City of Escondido that are commercially or industrially zoned, are permitted uses (no legal non-conforming uses), can be eligible depending on what kind of improvements will be made.
Properties are not eligible for grants if they have received City grant funds of $5,000 or more in the past ten years. However, if a grant of less than $5,000 had been received, an applicant could be eligible for the difference between their previous grant and the grant amount they would be eligible for under the terms of this program.
