Escondido Public Library

Escondido Public LibraryFounded in 1898, the Escondido Public Library serves residents with a Main Library, our East Valley Branch, and the Escondido Pioneer Room. We are still the place for books, but thanks to computer technology, we also offer you access to the world of electronic information.

The Library has established an online catalog which provides records of all our holdings and their availability for your use here or at your home, school, or business. We also provide computerized access to the full text of articles from hundreds of magazines and newspapers, access to electronic reference works such as the Encyclopedia Britannica Online, and many other databases on CD-ROM. Public Internet access is available at both the Main Library and the East Valley Branch.

For more information, visit www.escondido.org/library.

In August 2006, the Mayor and City Council appointed a task force of Escondido citizens to make recommendations to the City Council on the potential options for the construction of a new library. The final report of the Task Force's findings and recommendations is available online.

The Library is a source for:

  • An up-to-date book, video, books on tape, and CD collection of over 300,000 items.
  • State-of-the-art technology and resources, including Internet access and word processing.
  • Knowledgeable librarians to help you find information.
  • Free programs for children and adults, such as story times and concerts.
  • Literacy tutoring for adults and materials for beginning readers.
  • A low-cost meeting place for your nonprofit group.
  • A host of enjoyable volunteer opportunities.
