Palomar Hospital was built in 1949 and opened in 1950. Before it opened, there had been a few clinics. The first one was the Escondido Hospital Clinic on Grand Avenue which performed minor operations during the 1920s.

In 1933, two nurses opened the Escondido Community Hospital which was used until the opening of Palomar Hospital.
